quite the backstory.  This guitars was custom-built for internationally known artist, author and singer\/songwriter Alicia Bay Laurel in 1976 by the late master guitar builder, David Santo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSanto originally built guitars for classical guitar luthier Michael Gurion in New York City before opening his own shop in Costa Mesa, California and has built custom guitars for some of the better known folk rock musicians, as well as serving as the main builder of the Ernie Ball Earthwood acoustic bass series.  In the world of acoustic guitar aficionados, he is a legendary luthier.  Santo built a small number of guitars each year, making this a rare find - and this is the only one like it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlicia Bay Laurel is an American artist, author, and musician. The look of the guitar itself would be enough, but the materials, construction and appointments make it all the more special.   Be sure to zoom in on the photos to see everything.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"sd-specs\"\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"sd-specs\"\u003eEast Indian Rosewood is known to be among the most comparable tonewoods to Brazilian Rosewood.  It is light and not too dense, making it perfect for a body shape like this.  The tone is rich and warm while still producing a focused attack, with tons of sustain. This particular 0000-28 was matched with an amazing Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top, which was also hand-selected while at the Custom Shop.  It adds a bit of warmth to the bottom end, as well as mid-range to balance the brightness of the Rosewood back \u0026amp; sides, producing a great balance.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"sd-specs\"\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"sd-specs\"\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eEven though the guitar was already going to be gorgeous, they decided to add European Flamed Maple binding.  Then, the guitar really starts to get you unique....\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eYou'll notice that there is no Martin logo on the front of the headstock, which is capped with Wild Grain East Indian Rosewood to match the body  There is a small logo stamped on the back of the headstock.  Additionally, you may catch that there are no inlays on the ebony fretboard.  We've actually never come across one like this, and while it took a moment, we immediately fell in love.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe Mahogany neck profile is Martin’s modified low oval with standard taper, making it very comfortable to play for hours. Each guitar was meticulously voiced and finished, blending traditional techniques with modern precision, resulting in tonal excellence.  This PSC-332 was built in the original Fort Bragg era.  It has a great set of tonewoods: a AAA Sitka Spruce top, Padauk back and sides, Mahogany neck, Ebony fretboard, and East Indian Rosewood body binding, veneer and backstrip.  It also features hand-inlaid bird and small diamond abalone inlays.  The craftsmanship is incredible. \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"gmail-item2-description__content\"\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"gmail-item2-description__content\"\u003eIn terms of tone, you can expect exceptional clarity, warmth, and dynamic range.  The guitar is ideal for fingerstyle and expressive playing.  We found this particular dreadnaught model to sound open and lively.  It's aged well over the years - our thinking is that it sounds even better today than it did when first built.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"gmail-item2-description__content\"\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"gmail-item2-description__content\"\u003eWe reached out and corresponded with Jean Goodall; The small oval neck heel is ideally suited to the optional cutaway, which allows unrestricted access to the upper frets. With its unique shape and asymmetrical headstock’s lines echoed in the curvilinear pickguard, C10 models offer a welcome alternative for those who find that most small acoustic guitars look too much alike.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe C10 we have here is a Deluxe 41 style - it has rare appointments with MOP inlays in the fleur de lis design.  We called Collings about this guitar and were told that it was rarely done, making this quite the special find.  This is something that was not done on a regular basis and only available on custom orders.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe guitar features East Indian rosewood back and sides paired with a Sitka spruce top.  The Honduran mahogany neck has a very comfortable C profile, topped with an Ebony fretboard that has a 14 - 26\" compound radisu.
