It was aimed at players who wanted the unique Höfner bass sound but who didn't want to look like Paul McCartney!  The body had been in production since 1954 but only as a guitar. It was a fairly simple production decision to put the Violin Bass neck into a Club body and create a new product. The 500\/2 Club bass today is still built in exactly the same way as in 1964 and uses the same components.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe Hofner 500\/2 Club Bass is inspired by the original Hofner model. With its cutaway body design it provides ease of playability and delivers a true vintage sound with full deep bass tones from its fully hollow body.  Made of flamed body with a spruce top, it's incredibly resonant and sounds great even when not plugged in.  Three-piece maple neck with beech reinforcement and rosewood bound fingerboard is very comfortable to play.  Of course, when plugged in, this bass really stands out.  The close \"Cavern\" pickup spacing makes a difference.  There's a neck and a middle pickup, placed closely together.  It's essentially negating the need for a bridge pickup, which can be weak, and emphasizing the middle pickup position that provides a stronger signal.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003eLimited Edition of just\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e48 instruments each year.  A vintage style Hofner hardshell case and strap are included.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eMany prefer the 500\/2 Club Bass to the 500\/1 Violin Bass as it offers a bigger body but produces almost identical tones - the legendary Höfner bottom end thump.
